A Slice of Today’s Fans, UH!

As you know, I am working the Big 10 tournament. Last night I watched two great games. Players and coaches on both ends put everything they had into those games. While this should have been a blast to watch, it instead, was ruined by the fans.

The teams traveled well, the crowd was filled with parents, alums and other random fans. At first glance I was amazed by the amount of people willing to travel to “support” their teams. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I was in disbelief of the negativity and jeers by the fans. Why would you come to a game to scream the entire time? Do you really think every call was TERRIBLE?  Were the refs ALWAYS in the wrong? Are the coaches and players really making all the wrong decisions? People were nonstop! Are you even watching the game or are you only here to critique people?

We’ve all sat next to this fan at a game and they are sure to ruin your experience. There were young kids everywhere. Is this the example you’re setting? Negativity and swearing when things don’t go your way!? I’m hoping today is different, but my hopes aren’t high as we are one day away from the championship game.

I wonder how different things would be if people actually cheered on their own team instead of rooting against the other. Imagine a world like that!

  1. Sports. Are they a microcosm of the world? I sure hope not. I know exactly what you’re talking about. It’s a sad gathering of lots of people who feed off each other’s negativity. Here’s to hoping that today is better!!!!
